my veins might have been carved from tree roots, but my heart doesn't beat to the sound of wind in the leaves, anymore. it's not the same when my bones don't ache to reach the tops of bird-wing tips, fly like the almost-summer-child that i am (was). the grass doesn't grow around my fingers now, and even the flowers won't spell out my name (they used to know it so well, too). and i guess time changes everything because the clouds don't look right when i'm not flying to them and the ground doesn't feel right when i'm not running to world's end. i can glimpse the ground where my dreams were carved in stone, but a child has to grow
